CELEBRITY chef and author Stephanie
Alexander will be at the ‘Books for Cooks’
stand on Saturday, February 18th at the
Meeniyan Garlic Festival, signing copies of
her latest books, ‘The Cook’s Table’ and The
Kitchen Garden Companion’ at 11.30am.
Stephanie is fondly remembered for her
legendary restaurant ‘Stephanie’s’ at Haw-
thorn in the 90s and more recently for her
classic cook books and development of the
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foun-
dation in schools throughout Australia (one
of which is established at the Foster Primary
Also poised with pen will be The Age Food
writer and author Richard Cornish who will
be signing his ‘My Year without Meat’, ‘Home
Baking’ and his popular Movida cookbooks
at 1.30pm... right after his stint as MC in the

celebrity cook book signings, stalls, and art
in the street and gallery, there are three main
streams of events throughout the day to enter-
tain and educate: cooking demonstrations and
live music at the Festival Stages in the Recre -
ation Reserve and garlic education talks at the

Hosted by national garlic guru Penny Wood-
ward, the Garlic Institute will be open from
9am to 4pm in the Meeniyan Hall, with a pic-
torial display, information about garlic groups
and flavours, garlic books for sale and a range
of different garlics to taste.
Come and chat to Penny and the knowledge -
Talks will run for 30 to 45 minutes, includ-
ing question time.

Garlic Festival on Saturday,
Richard is already using his
significant influence to sup-
port the festival and has se-
cured the appearance of chef
Andreas Becerra from leading
Melbourne Spanish restau-
rant Movida to demonstrate
exciting dishes that showcase
South Gippsland garlic.
The panel of chefs will be
led by international cooking
sensation Alejandro Saravia
(ex The Fat Duck UK and now
executive chef at Melbourne’s
Peruvian hotspot, Pastuso).
Richard, along with wine
(Grape Expectations) and Mar-
ty Thomas from Moos will MC
the Festival Kitchen cooking
demonstrations on stage and
screen throughout the day.
