CONSTRUCTION of the new Bass Valley
Children’s Centre is nearing completion and
work is now gearing up for the facility to
commence operation in early 2018.
Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Pame-
la Rothfield, explained that the Children’s
Centre will bring significant benefits for the
Waterline areas of Bass Coast.
“ First and foremost the facility will pro-
vide integrated education outcomes to com-
plement the Bass Valley Primary School,”
Cr Rothfield said.
“ But more than that, the Children’s Centre
will provide enhanced community services,
local employment and training opportuni-
ties, and give families the flexibility to re-
turn to work.”
The Children’s Centre has been made pos-
sible thanks to the commitment and energy
of the Bass Valley community, who have ral-
lied and worked tirelessly to provide sup-
port for the much needed Children’s Centre.
Significant fundraising efforts were ac-
knowledged at the Bass Valley Children’s
Centre Inc. social event ‘Cent Night’ held on
Grand Final Eve.
Over 120 people were in attendance to
celebrate the handover of a $70,000 cheque
to Bass Coast Shire Council to support the
construction of the Children’s Centre.
Bass Valley Children’s Centre Inc spokes-
person, Mrs Amber Rees, said that the
fundraising efforts will not stop here.
“We are continuing to work hard as a com-
mittee and a community to move the total
money raised for the facility to $100,000 ,”
Mrs Rees said.
All money raised will be going directly to
the Children’s Centre.
Expressions of Interest for 2018 places
show a high demand for early years services
ranging from three and four year old kind-
er, to long day care and before/after school
The intent of this facility is to deliver qual-
ity, integrated and affordable early years
education services for the Waterline com-
Council is currently securing the man-
agement of the Children’s Centre and is in
advanced discussions with non-profit or-
ganisations who have solid experience in
the community based early years education
Works at the site will continue with the
existing JLM Pre-school portables expected
to be removed at the end of term four, and
the construction of dedicated turning lanes
and landscaping works completed in time
for the start of the 2018 school year.
Enrolments for the Children’s Centre can
be made to Bass Coast Shire Council from
Monday, 9 October. Families who have al-
ready lodged expressions of interest will be
contacted to confirm and complete their en-
rolments after this date.
