JANNE Grenon of Jeetho was six months
from death, she was told by her doctor.
Her heart was failing in 2009, but she didn’t
know it at the time. She had been told by a pre-
vious doctor repeatedly that her shortness of
breath was caused by vertigo.
These symptoms continued for years before a
new doctor examined Janne’s condition.
She was immediately booked in for open heart
Both Janne and her husband John have had
heart conditions surgically corrected.
They appreciate and understand the serious-
ness of what they’ve been through and are keen
to support others in similar situations.
That’s why they’re involved in Heart Support
Australia – a national patient group for heart at-
John is one of three national directors and
Janne is the South Gippsland branch secretary.
“Ever since the surgery I’ve become much fit-
ter than before,” Janne said.
“It’s improved my general health.”
Her recovery has been helped by two German
Shepherds, Bashy and Rashy, who Janne walks
twice a day on her farm.
She also owns two miniature horses, three
peacocks, two geese and a parakeet.
“She does a lot of work on the farm. She feeds
the circus every day,” John said of Janne and
“It’s part of her exercise routine.”
Prior to surgery, any exercise at all would re-
sult in two or three hours in bed or on the couch
“These types of symptoms mean that a lot of
people with heart conditions get depression,”
“We want to show people that there is hope.
“Heart Support’s role is to try to bring people
back to a normal lifestyle.
“We don’t give medical advice, just support
The local branch meets twice a month. The
first Friday of the month is a social meeting
where members will visit various places in
South Gippsland. Last month they visited Agnes
Falls; on Friday it was Rainbow Palace Chinese
restaurant in Korumburra. They’ve visited the
sand castle sculpture exhibition in Frankston
and taken a tour of a radio station at Drouin.
The second meeting is business on the third
Friday of the month.
“That when we decide what we’re going to raise
money for and how we’ll go about it,” John said.
“We also have interesting guest speakers. We
have a paramedic coming this month to explain
the latest in CPR.”
The branch has raised $36,000 for Gippsland
Southern Health Service equipment. The most
recent donation was $1500 for an electric weigh-
ing chair for the Korumburra Hospital.
The organisation also likes to support local
Money is raised with raffles at Michael’s IGA in
Leongatha and Korumburra.
John said Heart Support – Australia South
Gippsland has had excellent support from Mi-
chael’s IGA, not only with the raffle, but on mar-
ket day where points have been directed to the
group, and also with printing expenses for pro-
motional information and business cards.
The branch has 45 members and if you’d like
to join them, give John a call on 0412 996 196.

Support comes from the heart
EXPERIENCED massage therapist and
health practitioner Jenelle Angarano assess-
es and treats muscles, tendons, ligaments
and connective tissues of the body.
Coming from a competitive sport back-
ground, Jenelle has always had a keen in-
terest in the body, how it works and how to
maximise the body’s potential.
Through a range of massage techniques,
she assists in the rehabilitation, pain and
injury management of individuals.
“Massage therapy can assist on many lev-
els. I have personally found through experi-
ences of my own and through the feedback of
my clients the benefits of what I do, ” Jenelle
“I have had great results with bulging/
slipped disks, colitis, nerve impingements of
the body, headaches and migraines, impact
and muscle trauma and the overall function-
ing of the body.
“By no means am I claiming that massage
is a cure to everything, but with what I do
and the techniques I employ, I can assist
greatly with pain management and increase
the functioning of the body as a whole. ”
Not only are Jenelle’s techniques helpful
on a physical level, but they can also assist
on a mental level.
Jenelle said massage therapy is also about
treating and calming the nervous system.
“ Once the nervous system is calm, the body
responds in a much more positive manner,”
“ Fresh blood is able to get through previ-
ously neglected areas and this makes way
for the body to function at optimal level.
“This increases range of motion, move-
ment and minimises pain. I have a passion
for solving and possibly getting to the root
cause of the problem. ”
Jenelle is available for appointments at
