THREE textile artists, members of the Artists’
Society of Phillip Island, recently won awards
at the Corinella Modern Art and Photography
Show, held over the Labour Day weekend.
In the inaugural Wearable Art section of the
exhibition, Barbara Owen won Highly Com-
mended for Miss Doily; Joan Everest won Best
Wearable Art for Picnic Day and Shirley Collins
was awarded Best in Show for Winter.
The Textile Arts Group was thrilled with
these results and would like to thank Libby
Skidmore for inviting members to participate.
The group’s planning for a Community Textile
Art project to celebrate the Phillip Island 150th
Anniversary next year is well underway.
Barbara Owen has agreed to be the coordina-
tor for this project.
Research has begun on a suitable image for
the proposed project; grant funding is being in-
vestigated and a launch date of June 10, 2017
has been decided upon.
This coincides with the World Wide Knit In Pub-
lic (WWKIP) day and the group plans to run the
project for a year, culminating on WWKIP 2018.
The library has agreed to assist with promo-
tion, however, a large enough space to conduct
and store the work and materials is problem-
atic as the Artists’ Society lacks a permanent
