What a week for golf at Meeniyan
starting with an extremely successful
Power Pod day on Sunday, January
8. 96 players came out to play in a
Men’s, Ladies and mixed 4 person
Ambrose event, with the highlight
being the straightest for Ladies, and
longest drive for Men with the Power
Pod on the 18th. Lots of laughter
could be heard across the course as
players endeavoured to actually con-
nect let alone complete a straightest
or longest drive. Scores were keen
across all players who are to be con-
gratulated. A great social outing fol-
lowed with many stories and a chance
to enjoy the 19th hole together.
The course is looking a treat and
players from far and wide congratu-
lated the Club on the turn out. We’ve
had excellent fields all week with the
Grade winners at Korumburra, last Wednesday, were Pam Eyers, who
was also the January Monthly Medallist, Betty Yann and Chris Rickard.

Contrasting conditions to say the
least for golf at Wonthaggi, boiling
hot last week and gale force winds
and rain this week. It made for an
interesting game of golf. The field of
87 this week played a game of par.
Considering the conditions the
scores were quite good. The most
outstanding score of the week goes
to the winner of a Grade (Mr consis-
tency) Mark Tiziani with a score of
+ 8. The winner of B Grade with a
score of +2 was Jim Jordan and the
winner of C Grade was Murray Wil-
son with a score of +4.
Talking to Murray the other day, he
was telling me that he and his wife
went away for a few days to the west.
They called in at a club in the Perth
area and met a very friendly fellow
working there. They were asked the
usual question where do you come
from? Murray explained Wonthaggi
near the Island. Oh yes the fellow
said: “do you know a person by the
name of Aussie Copeland?” “Yes,”
said Murray. “Well when you see him
next say hello from his son Phillip
will you.” So Aussie, Murray says to
say hello from Phillip! Just to show
you how small a world we live in.
Nearest the pin on the second was
Daniel Crellin, on the 4th was Frank
Huber, the 13th was Peter (Foondog)
Foon, the 17th was Mark Keeble a
visitor from Heritage Golf and Coun-
try Club and the pro pin 8th was won
by Bob Furborough.
Rumour has it that Crell and
Quacky won their match very easily
from the two Sartori brothers ac-
cording to very reliable sources. But
then the same source also said the
Quacka’s second shot on the first
was only just past the ladies tee. Did
you actually hit the gas tank with
your drive Quacka? It was good to
see a few players back on the course
after a lay off due to injury.

inder, Ray Hender and Dan Crellin
