Last Saturday was monthly med-
al stroke played in hot and humid
conditions for some excellent tro-
phies provided by Laurie and San-
dra Webster. Course rating was 69.
The best score of the day and the
Goyne handicap monthly medal win-
ner was Marty DeLeeuw with his 68
net while Steve Bromby is coming
back into form with a 73 off the stick
to win the Parry scratch award.
A Grade winner was Neil Spargo
with 69 net on a countback from
Steve Bromby (runner-up), next best
and ball winners were Trevor Her-
bert 70 and Peter Hornibrook 71.
B Grade winner was Marty

There was a warm day for the 17
golfers last Wednesday.
Div 1 (0-25) was won by Lee Cle-
ments (12) with 35 pts and runner-
up was Chris Rickard (22), 33 pts.
Marg Harper (36) won Div 2 (26-
45) with a nice 38 pts and Betty
Thomson (34) was runner-up with
Tina Prosser was NTP on the 1st
and Heather Grist had the closest
shot on the 13th green.
Next Wednesday is January Month-
ly Medal, with the stall in operation
and a committee meeting after pre-
sentations. The following Wednes-
day, January 18, is the rescheduled
Ritchie Beecroft 4 Ball event.

Trudy and Don Olden had a
magnificent 25 points in the Twi-
light competition last Thursday.
Runners-up were Diarne and Terry

There was a small field in the
women’s competition on Saturday.
Deb Wrigley had a great score of 97
(28) 69 to win the RB Stroke event.
At Lang Lang Golf Club on Mon-
day, January 2 the event was stabl-

On Thursday Tom Trail, a visi-
tor from Mirboo North, made a
mess of the first hole but after that
played an impeccable short game
to amass 41 points taking out the
overall and A Grade events.
B Grade was won by Peter
Brownlie with 37 points, Evan Jen-
kins won C Grade with 40 points
and Kevin Scott was successful in
D Grade also with 40 points.

In hot and oppressive conditions
on Saturday Chris Leaver contin-
ued his excellent form to record the
best score of the day and again win
A Grade with 38 points.
B Grade was won by Kevin Cast-
wood with 36 points, Rob Martin
took C Grade with 37 points and
Peter Hobson won C Grade in a
countback also with 37 points.

Sunday 9 hole Competition: A
very warm Sunday but 52 players
competed in 9 teams and many
broken handicaps were recorded.
Marea Maher scored the ladies best
gross with 46 while Chris Lever
with 37 had the best gross for the
men. Lianne Adamson scored the
best net for the ladies while Daryl
Horse and Jerry Carroll shared the
men’s best net with 30. NTP on the
14th was won by Jill Steer.
The winning team was 7UP fol-
lowed by LLT, Kit’s Litter and Rule
35. The trophy winners for the day
were Kit’s Litter team.

Meeniyan golf club report. Tues-
day’s field welcomed members
from Warbarton GC, Ron and Mar-
cus Hottes, to Meeniyan for the
game of singles stableford. Both
gentlemen praised the club on the
condition of the course, especially
seeing the work is now undertaken
by a group of volunteers. They will
certainly be back again.
The club was pleased to see Dave
McIntyre back and Dave must have
benefited from his break by tak-
ing out the comp with a great 43
points. Excellent golf Dave.
Lloyd Redpath wasn’t far behind
with 42 points and Pete Wilson 40
Thursday’s game saw Pete Wil-
son again shining with 39 points.
The ladies featured well this week
with Marilyn McGeary claiming the
nearest the pin on both the 2nd
and the 14th, and Ned Scholte tak-
ing out the best 9 with 18 points on
a countback from Marilyn McGeary
and Col Stewart. Well done ladies.
Saturday was the monthly medal
with Craig Buckland absolutely
blitzing the field with a magnificent
65 nett. Michael Darmanin was
sponsor for the day and the club
thanks Dimmy for his generosity.
Excellent shooting also from Win-
ston Reilly with a 66 nett.
Despite a handy nett 73, presi-
dent Paul Robinson would like to
forget his drive off the 13th, man-
aging to nearly clear the ladies tee.
He unfortunately made another
calculated drive error on the first
but recovered to birdie the hole.
Members draw went to Paul Pa-
podopolous who unfortunately was
not present. The draw jack potted
again, so members are reminded
that you have to be there on the day
to take away the prize.

This week we played for the
monthly medal at Wonthaggi Golf
Club and also the medal of medal-
ist for 2016.
The field although not as large as
last week (72 players), this week’s
field played in some hot and stifling
conditions. The temperature got
as high as 38 degrees on Saturday.
Credit to all you people for going out
there and having a hit. The winner of
A Grade with a nett score of 72 was
my playing partner Steve Kane. And
yes it has been awhile since Steve was
in the winner’s circle. The winner of
B Grade was Alan Cubbon with a nett
score of 73. The winner of C Grade,
and the winner of the monthly medal
for January, was Jason Strong with
a nett score of 66. Well done Jason.
Like both Alan and Steve it has been
awhile for Jason too.
The winner of the putting this
month is Eric Vanagtmaal with 26
putts on a count back from Jason
Nearest the pin on the 2nd was
Ray Hender, the winner of the 4th
was David Brown. The winner of the
13th was Glen Moresco. Is it true
that you missed the putt Glen, and
that John Geyer chipped in and you
lost the hole? The winner of the pro
pin 8th was Miles Foster and the
winner of the 17th was (Dad) Ian
Cunningham. This was Ian’s second
win in-a-row on the 17th.

Now the winner of the medal of
medalist play off was young Harry
Adams with a nett score of 73. Con-
gratulations must go to Harry for not
only winning this board event but,
over the last couple of months he’s
won a club championship, a month-
ly medal, a few weekly comps both in
Wonthaggi and at other clubs. Just
keep an eye out for this young golfer,
because he is going places.
